Milford, CT (December 2, 2011) - On Friday night the Sacred Heart Men's Hockey team welcomed the Colonials of Robert Morris to town in the first of two meetings on the weekend. The Colonials opened the series with a 5-2 win, captalizing on the strength of three-straight goals toopen the game.
The Colonials put their first one on the board with 4:50 remaining in the first period, when Scott Jacklin scored his first goal of the season on assists from Jeff Jones and Nick Chiavetta. The Colonials would then take a 2-0 lead just 14 seconds into the second period when the same trio of Colonials would team up for another goal. This time, Jones had the goal and Jacklin and Chiavetta had the assists. The Colonials would score their third goal of the game with 9:27 remaining in the second period, when Cody Wydo put one in the back of the net on assists from Adam Brace and Cody Crichton.
After skating for 7:45 with no scoring action the Pioneers would change that and score the first of their two goals in the next 20 seconds. Ben Ketchum (Greenwich, CT) scored his 6th goal of the season on an assist from Eric DeLong (Oakville,MB). 20 seconds later with 1:22 remaining in the second period, Matt Gingera (Winnipeg, MB) lit the lamp for his team leading 8th goal of the season off another assist from DeLong, which was his 7th of the season. Cutting the Colonials lead to just 1.
But, that would be all the scoring that the Pioneers would get. Robert Morris added two third period goals to make it a 5-2 final.
Steven Legatto (Kelowna, BC) made 30 saves on the night for the Pioneers, while Brooks Ostergard made 29 saves for the Colonials.
The Pioneers will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when they take on Robert Morris again at 4:00 pm at Webster Bank Arena.
