FAIRFIELD, Conn.— Sacred Heart University men's golf sophomore Saptak Talwar was named the NEC Men's Golfer of the week, as announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon.
The honor is the first of the season for Talwar after finishing in first at the Towson Invite.
The sophomore opened the final month of the regular season with a scoring average of 69.5 with a two-round score of 139. He finished first among 93 golfers at Prospect Bay Country Club, fending off competitors from 16 other schools, including six from the NEC.
He opened the event with a 69 in round one, which was tied for the best score on the first day. He closed the competition by shooting a 70 on day two to close 2-under par.
The Pioneers compete at home in the SHU Spring Invitational beginning Sunday, April 14 in the final tune-up before NEC Championships at the end of the month.
