Men's Golf Tabbed Second in NEC Preseason Poll

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — The Sacred Heart men's golf team was selected second in the Northeast Conference preseason coaches poll announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

The Pioneers ended the fall with three players finishing in the top-25 at the UConn Invite, before finishing eighth in the Metropolitan Intercollegiate. Last season SHU finished in third at the NEC Championships at LPGA International Hills Course.

NEC Rookie of the Year and NEC First-Team selection Saptak Talwar returns after leading the Pioneers with 75.5 scoring average in an opening campaign that saw four top-10 finishes including two in the top-five. In the Fall season, Talwar led SHU to a first place finish at the Ryan T. Lee Collegiate, also winning the Individual Medalist honors at 1-under par after a two-hole playoff.

Senior Alex Manner and junior Clifford Lindholm also return to the SHU lineup after posting a scoring average of 76.3 and 78.3 respectively.

Last season's preseason favorite Bryant, earned the top spot with five first-place votes. SHU and Robert Morris were both picked second with two first-place votes apiece followed by Fairleigh Dickinson in fourth. Saint Francis U. rounded out the top-5 with the fifth spot.  

Rounding out the poll is LIU Brooklyn in sixth, Mount St. Mary's and Wagner tied for seventh and LIU St. Francis Brooklyn in ninth.
