FAIRFIELD, Conn.— The Sacred Heart men's golf freshman Saptak Talwar was selected to compete in the 2018 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Regional in Kissimmee, Florida. The regional will be held at the Reunion Resort, May 14-16.
Talwar was sensational in his first Northeast Conference tournament appearance last weekend. He opened play at LPGA International with a two-over 74 to sit tied for fourth overall and three-shots off the lead. He maintained pace in round two with a three-over 75 to sit sixth overall heading into the final round.
The rookie opened his final round with three straight birdies to start the day. He finished the front nine four-under before finishing with a five-under 67 to take the clubhouse lead at an even 216. Three straight bogeys by CCSU's Anthony Sebastianelli set up a playoff meeting to decide the individual crown. Talwar delivered with a par putt on the par-four 18th to become the fourth golfer in school history to claim the NEC Individual Championship. He joins Peter Ballo in 2014 and Leo Garcia in 2012 as the three golfers in school history to compete at the NCAA Championships.
The field consists of 81 teams and 45 individuals competing at the six NCAA Men's Regional Championship sites, May 14-16. 30 teams and six individuals will advance from the six regional sites to the national championships to be played May 25-30 at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Talwar is one of five individuals competing in the Kissimmee Regional and joins Northeast Conference team champion CCSU among the field in the Sunshine State.
