MILFORD, Conn.— The Sacred Heart University men's golf team finished first at the 2018 SHU Spring Classic held at Great River Golf Club on Sunday. The event was cut to one round as the second day of competition was canceled due to impending weather on Monday.
The Pioneers finished with a single round of 309 as a team on a windy Sunday afternoon, four strokes ahead of second place Saint Peter's. Hofstra rounded out the top three in third with a score of 316.
Junior Alex Manner paced the SHU scoring group with a two-over 74 on Sunday. Manner finished with three birdies on the day. Freshman Saptak Talwar tied for sixth overall with a five-over 77. Senior Matt Shubley rounded out the Pioneers in the top-10 with a score of 78, good for a tie for ninth on the leaderboard.
Freshman Jake Sullivan and sophomore Clifford Lindholm led the Pioneers who competed as individuals on their home course, both posting a score of 79 to tie for 11th. Junior Hector Gutierrez and senior Curtis Quinn both carded an 85 to tie for 31st as individuals.
The Pioneers will take the week to prepare for the Northeast Conference Championships at LPGA International beginning on Friday, April 27.
