FARMVILLE, Va.— The Sacred Heart University men's golf team concluded the month of March with a sixth-place finish at the Manor Intercollegiate. The Pioneers finished with a three-round score of 919 in the two-day event held at the Manor Golf Club.
SHU had three golfers place inside the top-20 on the leaderboard in the event. Matt Shubley recorded a ninth-place finish at eight-over par in his first event since being named NEC Golfer of the Month two weeks ago. He carded a 73 in the second round as did freshman Saptak Talwar who finished tied for 10th at 10-over.
Junior Alex Manner moved up eight spots in the final day thanks to a 74 in the third round. He finished tied for 15th at 12-over par. Senior Connor Cunningham and freshman Jake Sullivan rounded out the SHU scoring group, finishing tied for 56th and 59th respectively.
Tournament host, Longwood claimed the team title with a score of 893. Delaware and Western Carolina rounded out the top three. The Pioneers finished five strokes back of IUPUI for the fourth spot. SHU finished ahead of NEC foes, LIU Brooklyn and Wagner in the event.
The Pioneers compete next weekend at the Towson Spring Invite at Prospect Bay Country Club starting Saturday, April 7.
