FAIRFIELD, Conn.— Sacred Heart University men's golf senior Matt Shubley was named Northeast Conference Co-Golfer of the Week for his strong play this past week. Shubley ended the fall season with co-golfer of the month honors in November and followed up with two top 10 finishes in the opening week of the Spring season.
He was the Pioneers top finisher in both the BCU Gary Freeman Invitational and Lonnie Barton Invitational down in Florida with a stroke average of 74.0. SHU finished third and fourth respectively in the events down at LPGA International.
The senior started off the spring with a fourth-place showing at the Gary Freeman Invitational with a three-round score of 7-over par. After an opening round of 76, Shubley carded a 73 and 74 in rounds two and three to pace the Pioneers scoring group.
He hovered around par again in the Lonnie Barton Invitational, finishing 3-over par to tie for fourth on the leaderboard. Shubley recorded a 73 & 74 yet again as the Pioneers finished fourth in the event.
The Pioneers are back in action at The Manor Intercollegiate at the Manor Golf Club in Farmville, Virginia on Friday, March 30.
