DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.— The Sacred Heart University men's golf team concluded spring break with a fourth-place finish at the annual Lonnie Barton Invitational held at LPGA International on Wednesday.
The Pioneers finished with a two-round team score of 611 to finish fourth among 14 teams. Bethune-Cookman claimed the team title with a score of 587 just two strokes ahead of second place Fort Wayne who ended the day at 589. Northeast Conference rival, Bryant edged SHU by one stroke for the third-place finish with a score of 610.
Matt Shubley continued his strong week with another top-five finish to lead SHU. The senior put together a two-round score of three-over 147 to tie for fourth on the leaderboard. Junior Alex Manner carded a 75 in the second round to move up 22 spots on the final leaderboard with a score of 153 to tie for 16th. Freshman Saptak Talwar tied for 24th with a score of 155. Sophomore Clifford Lindholm carded back-to-back rounds of 78 to finish 12-over 156 and in a tie for 28th. Hector Gutierrez closed out the Pioneers scoring group with a score of 162.
Freshman Jake Sullivan was the top finisher among those who competed as individuals with a score of eight-over 152 to sit tied for 12th in the event. Senior Connor Cunningham fired a four-over 76 in the final round to move up 18 spots at 10-over 154 to tie for 20th as an individual. Seniors Tom D'Andrea and Curtis Quinn closed out the Pioneers group of individuals with scores of 162 and 167 respectively.
The Pioneers return to the course on Friday, March 30 at The Manor Intercollegiate in Farmville, Virginia.
