ELLINGTON, Conn.— The Sacred Heart men's golf team finished 12th at The Connecticut Cup held at Ellington Ridge Country Club on Tuesday. The Pioneers shot their best team round of 300 in the final round to finish at +57 in the two-day event.
Senior AJ Correia was the Pioneers top finisher at 13-over par. Correia bounced back from first round of 82 to shoot a 73 and 74 in the final two rounds to place 41st. Junior Tom D'Andrea shot a final round of one over par to finish at +14. Sophomore Hector Gutierrez also finished tied for 47th at +14. Gutierrez posted back to back rounds of 76 to close out the event. Junior Curtis Quinn closed the scoring group for the Pioneers with a score of +16.
Boston College took home first place with a score of +24. Tournament host UConn would finish one stroke ahead of Cornell for second place at +28. Sacred Heart finished one stroke behind Fairfield who finished 11th at +56.
The Pioneers wrap up fall play next week when they host the SHU Fall Invitational at Great River Country Club on October 16-17.
