DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Sacred Heart men's golf team wrapped up the first round of the Northeast Conference Men's Golf Championship Friday at LPGA International in third place.
The Pioneers finished the day with a team score of 289, one stroke over par. As a team, SHU was three-under on the front-nine. Freshman Hector Gutierrez had SHU's low round Friday with a one-under 71 to put him tied for fifth. Gutierrez birdied holes four, five, and six to go two-under through nine and was three-under after 12 holes. AJ Correia was two-under on the front nine and finshed the day even par with a round of 72 to tie for 10th place. Connor Cunningham and Matt Shubley both finished the day with rounds of one-over 73 and tied for 12th. Cunningham was two-under on the back nine to finish at +1.
SHU ended the first round one stroke behind Bryant, who was even par on the day. Wagner leads the tournament at seven-under. The Pioneers lead fourth-place Robert Morris by five strokes and Central Connecticut by six.
