Pete Ballo Leads Field After First Round of Lonnie Barton Invitational

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Redshirt-Junior Peter Ballo (Stamford, Conn.) leads the field at the Lonnie Barton Invitational after the first round held Monday at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla. The redshirt-junior fired a one-over 73 in the opening round, two shots better than LIU Brooklyn's Obediah Ayton. As a team, the Sacred Heart men's golf team is in second place among a field of four other Northeast Conference schools.

Ballo had four birdies in his opening round and was three-under on par-fives. Will Smittle (Scarsdale, N.Y.) is among three golfers tied for fourth at +5. Sam Barber (North Bay, Ontario) and Joshua Salah (Gloucester, Mass.) finished Monday in the top-15. Barber fired a +10 82 with Salah posting a +11 83. The Pioneers enter Tuesday's final round nine shots behind LIU Brooklyn. The Blackbirds posted a team score of +18 Monday, with the Pioneers shooting a +27. Sacred Heart is ten shots ahead of Bryant in third place.
