July 2, 2008

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (July 2, 2008) - The lights are ready to come up on the 2008 Sacred Heart football season come August 30th with the Pioneers hosting Assumption College, quite literally in fact. When SHU kicks-off against the Greyhounds on the newly renovated Campus Field in late August they will do so under newly installed permanent lights that will usher in a new era for Sacred Heart athletics.

For the first time since Sacred Heart opened their undefeated 2001 season under the lights, also against Assumptions, Pioneer football will be played at night. SHU will take on the Greyhounds at a special 6:00 pm start time and then face Bentley College the following week also under the new lights. The Assumption game will feature a special presentation at halftime as the Sacred Heart men's and women's track & field teams will receive their Championship Rings for winning the 2008 Northeast Conference titles. September 6th's game against the Bentley Falcon's will also kick-off at 6:00 pm and will be "SHU Spirit Club Night".

The rest of the home slate features an October 4th date with the Robert Morris Colonials on "Homecoming Weekend". The Pioneers open the Northeast Conference schedule against the Colonials with a 1:00 pm kick-off as the halftime will feature a Championship Ring presentation for the SHU men's golf, women's lacrosse and women's bowling teams for their 2008 team conference titles.

The October 18th match-up with the defending NEC Champion UAlbany Great Danes will highlight "Family Weekend" at Sacred Heart. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm. The final two home games highlight November as SHU takes on conference foes Wagner on the 1st and instate rival Central Connecticut on the 15th.

The 2008 schedule will feature road stops at Iona and Marist in non-conference action along with two-trips to Western Pennsylvania to visit Saint Francis (PA) and Duquesne followed by a trip to the Jersey Shore to face Monmouth.
