Rogers Named to Fred Mitchell Award Watch List

FAIRFIELD, CT (August 2, 2012) - As the Sacred Heart football program gets ready to open preseason training camp, r-sophomore place kicker Chris Rogers (Cazenovia, NY) was named to the Fred Mitchell Award Award Watch List for the upcoming 2012 season.  The annual Fred Mitchell Outstanding Place-Kicker Award is provided to the nation's top collegiate place-kicker among more thatn 750 FCS, Division II, III, NAIA and NJCAA football teams.

The 2012 Watch List includes 44 student-athletes including 23 seniors, 14 juniors and seven sophomores.  Fred Mitchell said, "It is a pleasure to include these fine young men on the Watch List for this Award.  We are delighted to recognize them based on outstanding performance in the community and expectations going into the 2012 college football season.  It is also a thrill to see so many familiar names on the Watch List, including 22 place-kickers that were finalist for the Award last season."

As a rookie in 2011, Rogers led all Pioneers in scoring with 63 points coming on 11 field goals and 30 extra points.  Rogers garnered All-Northeast Conference honors last fall and was also named to the All-New England team.  Rogers was the only kicker in FCS to make every field goal he took last season (11-11).
