Men's Fencing Goes 4-1 in Final NFC Meet

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.— The Sacred Heart men's fencing team put together a 4-1 showing at the third Northeast Fencing Competition meet of the season held at Smith College on Saturday. The Pioneers dominated its early matches in the final NFC meet of the season.

SHU opened the day with a 16-11 win over UMass in round one, with the foil squad of Lucas Wetmore, Stephen Clarke, and Julian Mallet kicking the match off with an 8-1 performance. 

The Pioneers then dominated Boston University 22-5 in round two with the foil and epee squads going a combined 16-1. After a break in round three, SHU bested Dartmouth in round four with a 21-6 win The Epee squad led the way with an 8-1 record in the match.

SHU followed that up with a 23-4 win over Tufts in round five. Troy Kapitzke, Nicolo Cerminara, and Dante Centeno went a perfect 9-0 in the epee bouts. A tough 14-13 loss to Vassar ended the Pioneers day in the sixth round.
