FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Sacred Heart University men's basketball red-shirt junior Jare'l Spellman was featured in The Richmond Times-Dispatch, the local newspaper of Spellman's home state of Virginia.
Spellman was featured in Monday's edition of The Richmond Times-Dispatch by reporter Jonathan Howard. The feature focused on Spellman's basketball path from high school, to Div. II Florida Southern and eventually to SHU. The feature also highlighted how Spellman's shot-blocking prowess has turned the Pioneers into a contender for an NEC title.
Spellman is averaging 8.9 points, 7.5 rebounds and three blocks per game. Spellman's three blocks per game ranks fourth in the nation, while his 80 blocks on the season also ranks fourth in the nation. Spellman's 80 blocks exceeds last season's team total of 71 and is the program's Div. I single-season record.
