SHU Travels To CCSU For Saturday Showdown On ESPN3

Setting the Scene... SHU looks to stay in the race for the NEC Tournament when it travels to New Britain to take on Central Connecticut.

Catch the Game... Saturday's game will be broadcast on ESPN3 with Paul Dottino and Joe DeSantis on the call.

Last Time Out... SHU was within four, 61-57, with 7:11 to play at FDU Thursday night, but the Knights went on an 11-3 run to take a 72-60 lead and held on to win 77-67. Mario Matasovic led all scorers with a career-high 27 points, and also led SHU with nine rebounds. Kinnon LaRose made three three-pointers on his way to 13 points. Noah Morgan led the Knights with 21 points. 

Race For The NEC Tournament... Saturday's game is very important in the race for the NEC Tournament. SHU enters Saturday two games behind 5-8 CCSU with five games remaining. A Pioneers win will give SHU the tiebreaker over the Blue Devils. 

Matasovic Sets Career-High At FDU... Redshirt-Senior forward Mario Matasovic went off Thursday night at FDU, scoring a career-high 27 points. Matasovic was 11-for-18 from the field and 4-for-5 at the foul line against the Knights. His previous career-high was 19 points, set most recently against Mitchell on Nov. 22. It was his 10th double-figure scoring game in his last 14. Matasovic is second in the NEC in field goal percentage at 57.7%, and seventh with 1.96 offensive rebounds per game.

Hoehn Scoring And Dishing... Since missing the Jan. 28 game at Saint Francis U, Sean Hoehn is averaging 12.7 points and 3.7 assists per game. Hoehn had 16 points and six assists in SHU's win over CCSU on Feb. 3, followed by 11 points and three assists at FDU on Thursday. He has scored in double-figures in eight of his last nine games. Hoehn is fifth in the NEC in both assists (4.24/game) and assist/turnover ratio (1.68).

All-Time Vs. CCSU... The Pioneers and Blue Devils meet for the 62nd time Saturday, with CCSU leading the series 37-24. SHU has won five straight against Central Connecticut, and six of the last seven meetings. Each of the last four meetings in New Britain have been decided by five points or less.

Last Meeting... The Pioneers used a 9-0 run to open the second half against CCSU last Saturday at the Pitt Center to take a 36-30 lead with 14:33 to play. SHU also went on a 13-2 run late in the game to take a 13-point lead, winning 67-54 to snap a five-game losing streak. Mario Matasovic and Sean Hoehn each scored a team-high 16 points. Matasovic added 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season, while Hoehn had a game-high six assists and four steals.

Scouting CCSU... The Blue Devils suffered their fourth straight loss Thursday night with a 71-57 loss to Mount St. Mary's. CCSU led 32-27 at the half, but shot just 29.6% in the second half as the Mountaineers shot over 55% to pull away. Tyler Kohl led the Blue Devils with 24 points and nine rebounds. Kohl leads CCSU in scoring and rebounding, averaging 16.5 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. The Blue Devils are two games ahead of SHU for the eighth and final NEC Tournament spot with five games remaining.
