Last Time Out... The Pioneers shot 47.4% from the field and outrebounded St. Francis Brooklyn by 17, but the Terriers' 14 three-pointers got them a 73-68 win on Friday afternoon in the NEC opener for both teams. Mario Matasovic led SHU with 17 points and nine rebounds. De'von Barnett and Zach Radz each had 11 points.
Pulling Down Boards... The Pioneers are second in the NEC in rebound margin, outrebounding opponents by 6.9 boards per game. Only Wagner has a better rebound margin at +7.1. SHU posted its second-highest rebound margin of the season Friday, outrebounding St. Francis Brooklyn by 17 (45-28). Mario Matasovic and Chris Robinson each had a game-high nine boards Friday.
Matasovic Making Shots... Redshirt-Senior forward Mario Matasovic had his second-best scoring output of the season on Friday, scoring a game-high 17 points against St. Francis Brooklyn. Matasovic was 7-for-13 from the field, his 12th game this season shooting over 50%. In his last four games, Marasovic is averaging 12.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.
Zach Attack... Sophomore guard Zach Radz scored in double figures for the fourth time this season on Friday against St. Francis Brooklyn. Radz scored all 11 of his points in the second half against the Terriers, getting the Pioneers within three points three different times. Prior to Friday's game, Radz had scored 14 points in the previous four games combined. He also had six rebounds against the Terriers.
All-Time Vs. Fairleigh Dickinson... SHU leads the all-time series against the Knights 18-12. The Pioneers swept last season's series to extend their winning streak over FDU to three games. SHU has won eight of the last 10 meetings against FDU.
Last Meeting... Sacred Heart won its fifth game in a row on Feb. 16, 2017 with a 91-81 win over FDU at the Pitt Center. Quincy McKnight led all scorers with 26 points, making 12 of 13 free throws. Sean Hoehn added 17 points and four rebounds. Earl Potts Jr. led five Knights in double-figure scoring with 21 points. SHU shot over 50% from the field and held FDU to 40%.
Scouting Fairleigh Dickinson... Picked to finish second in the NEC in the preseason, the Knights opened NEC play with an 82-71 win at LIU Brooklyn on Friday. Mike Holloway led FDU with 27 points and nine rebounds. Darnell Edge added 19 points while playing all 40 minutes. Darian Anderson, FDU's leading scorer at 14.1 points per game, had 11 at LIU Brooklyn with five assists.
