Setting the Scene... The Pioneers open Northeast Conference play Friday afternoon against St. Francis Brooklyn.

Last Time Out... The Pioneers made a late rally last Friday at Providence, cutting a 21-point second half deficit to eight, but fell to the Friars 89-75. Freshman Alex Watson was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field with three three-pointers to lead SHU with a career-high 15 points. Mario Matasovic added 14 points.

Watson Named NEC Rookie of the Week... Freshman guard Alex Watson was named the NEC Rookie of the Week on Tuesday, earning SHU's first weekly honor of the season. Watson led the Pioneers with a career-high 15 points at Providence, going 5-for-5 from the field with three three-pointers. Before his career-high output against the Friars, Watson had 14 total points in his previous four games combined.

Fast Start To Conference Play... Since 2006, SHU has at least split its first two conference games nine times. Last season's 0-2 start to NEC play was the Pioneers' first since 2010. 

Hoehn Filling It Up... Junior guard Sean Hoehn has scored in double figures in each of the last five games. Hoehn had 11 points and a team-high five assists at Providence on Dec. 22. Over the last two games, Hoehn has nine assists to only two turnovers. Hoehn has averaged 15.8 points per game at the Pitt Center this season, shooting 36.8% from the three-point arc. 

Plenty In Reserves... The SHU bench has averaged 19.1 points per game so far this season. On Dec. 22, the Pioneers' reservers outscored Providence's bench 36-19. It was SHU's highest bench point output of the season. The Pioneers have had a player score at least 10 points off the bench eight times so far in the 2017-18 campaign after Alex Watson's 15 points at Providence. 

All-Time Vs. St. Francis Brooklyn... The Terriers lead the all-time series 20-12. Sacred Heart won both meetings last season and have won the last three meetings in the series.

Last Meeting... Sacred Heart shot over 50% from the field and made 10 three-pointers in an 80-65 win over St. Francis Brooklyn at the Pitt Center on Feb. 9, 2017. The win was SHU's third in a row, moving the Pioneers to 6-7 in the NEC. Quincy McKnight led the Pioneers with 25 points, as Mario Matasovic had a career-high 19 points and eight rebounds. Yunus Hopkinson led the Terriers with 34 points.

Scouting St. Francis Brooklyn... Picked to finish 10th in the NEC in the preseason, the Terriers enter conference play 3-9 after a 71-68 overtime loss at St. Peter's on Dec. 23. Rasheem Dunn led all players with 25 points and 10 rebounds against the Peacocks. Dunn leads the Terriers in scoring with 14.3 points per game. Jalen Jordan is second on the team in scoring at 12.3 points per game. The Terriers average 70.7 points per game and allow 74.5.
