Setting the Scene... Sacred Heart plays its first of four games in the 2017 Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament Tuesday night when it travels to Boston College.
Last Time Out.. SHU opened the 2017-18 season Friday night with a 69-64 loss to Holy Cross at the Pitt Center. After trailing by 11 at halftime, SHU opened the second half on a 13-3 run to cut the deficit to one 39-38. The Pioneers used seven straight points from Sean Hoehn in the final 2:00 to get within three 67-64. Hoehn led the Pioneers with 18 points, five assists, and two steals. Joseph Lopez had a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. E.J. Anosike (13 points) and Mario Matasovic (10 points) also scored in double figures.
Glass Cleaners... SHU outrebounded Holy Cross by 20, 44-24, in Friday night's season opener. The Pioneers highest rebound margin all of last season was 17. SHU also turned 17 offensive rebounds into 14 second chance points.
Hoehn As High Scorer... For the third time in his career, Sean Hoehn led SHU in scoring with his 18 points Friday night against Holy Cross. He was one point shy of tying his career-high of 19 set on Jan. 27, 2016 at LIU Brooklyn. Hoehn also led the Pioneers with six assists and two steals.
Lopez Double-Doubles Up... Senior foward Joseph Lopez picked up where he left off last season, recording his 12th double-double as a Pioneer Friday night. Lopez had 11 points and 10 rebounds in the second half alone against Holy Cross, finishing with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Anosike's Debut... Freshman forward E.J. Anosike had an impressive collegiate debut Friday night against Holy Cross. Anosike scored 13 points off the bench, making 7-of-10 free throws while pulling down eight rebounds.
All-Time vs. Boston College... The Eagles lead the series with the Pioneers 8-0, with all meetings played at Boston College. Each of the last three meetings, and five of the eight all-time, have been decided by 10 points or less.
Last Meeting... SHU rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit to take a 48-47 lead at Boston College with 10:24 to play. However, a 7-0 run by the Eagles put Boston College up 54-48 with 8:27 remaining on their way to an 82-77 win. Quincy McKnight scored a then-career high 36 points, with Joseph Lopez added 16 points and nine rebounds. Jerome Robinson led the Eagles with 32 points.
Scouting the Eagles... Picked 14th in the ACC Preseason Poll, Boston College is 2-0 to start the season after a 91-52 win over South Carolina State on Sunday. Steffon Mitchell led all scorers with 21 points. Jordan Chatman added 13 points.
