FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart men's basketball team will play in a charity exhibition game at Manhattan on Friday, Nov. 3 at 8 p.m. All of the gate proceeds from next Friday's game, as well as additional donations, will benefit the American Red Cross' hurricane relief efforts in Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico. A suggested $5 donation has been requested.
The NCAA has granted a waiver to schools that allows for an extra exhibition game to be added to their schedules, provided that the proceeds are donated to hurricane relief.
Sacred Heart Athletics will be collecting donations leading up to the Nov. 3 game. People can drop off donations at the Athletic offices on the second floor of the Pitt Center between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. from Oct. 26 until Nov. 2. The Pioneers men's basketball team will make the donation on behalf of the SHU community at the game on Friday evening.
The SHU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee raised just over $1,000 for hurricane relief at the Pioneers season-opening football game on Sept. 2.
The Pioneers open the 2016-17 season at the Pitt Center against Holy Cross on Friday, Nov. 10.
