Sacred Heart (13-17, 8-9 NEC) at Robert Morris (12-18, 8-9 NEC)
Saturday, Feb. 23 - 3 PM
Sewell Center - Moon Township, Pa.
Setting the Scene... Sacred Heart wraps up the regular season on Saturday at RMU with a chance to finish at least .500 in NEC play for the third straight season.
Last Time Out... The Pioneers shot just 33.9% from the field and 19% from the three-point line in a 73-64 loss at Saint Francis U Thursday night. SHU led 14-2 early in the first half before a 17-0 Red Flash run midway through the first put Saint Francis U up by seven. Quincy McKnight led the Pioneers with 18 points. Joseph Lopez had his second straight double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. De'von Barnett was 7-for-10 from the field for 14 points.
All-Time vs. Robert Morris... The Colonials lead the all-time series with the Pioneers 21-10. Robert Morris has won 12 of the 15 meetings in Moon Township. The Pioneers beat RMU at the Sewell Center on Jan. 2, 2016 69-65.
Last Meeting... SHU opened NEC play with a 78-67 loss to Robert Morris on Dec. 29 at the Pitt Center. The Pioneers led for much of the first half, but a 12-0 run by the Colonials in the second half broke a 54-54 tie. Joseph Lopez led all players with 23 points and 16 rebounds, adding three blocks. Quincy McKnight added 18 points. Isaiah Still led Robert Morris with 22 points and seven rebounds.
And Down The Stretch They Come... Sacred Heart has caught fire in February, going 5-2 so far. Since 2015, SHU is 17-6 in February. Despite losing their last two games, the Pioneers are still averaging over 77 points per game in February and shooting 44.4% from the field. Thursday night's game was the first time since Jan. 28 that SHU scored less than 70 points.
Lopez Double-Doubles Up... Joseph Lopez had his second straight double-double Thursday night at Saint Francis U, scoring 17 points with a game-high 12 rebounds. It was his 10th double-double of the season and seventh in NEC play. In the last meeting against Robert Morris, Lopez had 23 points and 16 rebounds. Lopez enters the final day of NEC play fifth in rebounding (8.6/game) and field goal percentage (.571), and seventh in blocked shots (1.14/game).
Playoff Positioning... SHU still has a chance to finish fifth in the NEC with a win Saturday over Robert Morris. A Pioneers win, coupled with a Fairleigh Dickinson loss at Saint Francis U, would put SHU and FDU in a tie for fifth. Sacred Heart swept the Knights in the regular season to give it the tiebreaker. The Pioneers also hold the tiebreaker if they're tied with FDU and Bryant for fifth.
A loss Saturday to Robert Morris could put Sacred Heart in eighth heading into the NEC Tournament, which begins Wednesday. The Pioneers could finish seventh if Bryant were to lose to Central Connecticut, since Sacred Heart swept the Bulldogs in the regular season.
Scouting the Colonials... Just like the Pioneers, Robert Morris has gone 5-2 in February after escaping with a 77-76 win over Fairleigh Dickinson Thursday night. Isaiah Still led four Colonials in double-figures with 15 points. Aaron Tate added 14 points and eight rebounds. Still leads Robert Morris in scoring, averaging 15.1 points per game. Kavon Stewart is second with 11 points per game.
