Last Time Out... Wagner rallied from a five-point halftime deficit to beat the Pioneers at the Pitt Center 67-62 on Saturday. Joseph Lopez led SHU with 14 points and added six rebounds. Matej Buovac had 13 points off the bench. Sean Hoehn had 12 points and a game-high six assists.
All-Time vs. LIU Brooklyn... The Blackbirds lead the all-time series 21-11. Sacred Heart and LIU Brooklyn split the regular season meetings last season, with the home team winning each game by eight points. LIU Brooklyn then defeated Sacred Heart 84-76 in last season's NEC Tournament quarterfinal at the Pitt Center.
Last Meeting... Despite getting a game-high 35 points and eight rebounds from Cane Broome, the Pioneers couldn't get past a hot-shooting LIU Brooklyn team in the NEC Tournament quarterfinals in an 84-76 loss on March 2, 2016. Trailing by 14 at halftime, SHU closed to within three, 75-72, with 3:13 to play but didn't hold off a late Blackbirds run. LIU Brooklyn shot 54.8% from the field and were led by Joel Hernandez's 22 points and seven rebounds.
Lopez In The Low Post... Joseph Lopez led SHU with 14 points and three blocks against Wagner last Saturday. Lopez has scored in double figures in nine of the last 11 games, averaging 15.1 points in those 11 games with a field goal percentage of .607. In NEC play, Lopez is averaging 14.3 points and 9.5 rebounds per game while shootimg 59.8%. Lopez is 25th nationally in field goal percentage at 59.0%.
Buovac Off The Bench... Senior Matej Buovac has scored in double-figures in each of the last five games after scoring 13 points against Wagner Saturday. He tied his career-high with 18 points in SHU's win at Bryant on Jan. 14. Over the last five games, Buovac is averaging 14.8 points per game while shooting 47.9% from the field. He has also shot 45.9% from the three-point line over the last five games.
Hoehn Homed In... Sophomore Sean Hoehn is averaging 9.0 points and 3.7 assists per game over the last six games. He's also shooting 44% from the three-point line during that stretch. Hoehn scored 16 points with five assists in the triple-overtime win at Bryant on Jan. 14. He had 12 points and a game-high six assists against Wagner last Saturday.
Scouting the Blackbirds... Picked fourth in the NEC Preseason Poll alongside Mount St. Mary's, LIU Brooklyn enters Thursday's game at 6-2 in the league after an 83-66 loss at Fairleigh Dickinson Saturday. Jerome Frink led the Blackbirds with 20 points and 10 rebounds for his ninth double-double of the season. Frink leads LIU Brooklyn with 17.3 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. LIU Brooklyn averages 70.4 points per game and outrebounds its opponents by 5.8 per game.
