Setting the Scene... Sacred Heart looks to finish its four-game road swing 3-1 when it takes on Bryant Saturday afternoon.
Last Time Out... SHU scored over 80 points for the first time since Dec. 11, winning at St. Francis Brooklyn 87-75. It was the Pioneers' first win in Brooklyn Heights since 2009. Quincy McKnight led all scorers with 26 points. Joseph Lopez had his sixth double-double of the season with 21 points and 16 rebounds. Matej Buovac had a season-high 16 points off the bench. SHU shot 49.2% from the field and outrebounded the Terriers 45-36.
All-Time vs. Bryant... Sacred Heart leads the all-time series with the Bulldogs 20-13. The Pioneers have won the last four regular-season meetings against Bryant. SHU has averaged 79.6 points per game in the last five games against Bryant.
Last Meeting... SHU shot 50% from the field in the second half to break a 29-29 halftime tie, defeating Bryant at Chace Athletic Center 74-57 on Feb. 18, 2016. Three Pioneers had double-doubles in the game, led by Cane Broome's 27 points and 10 rebounds. Tevin Falzon had 18 points and 18 rebounds, and Quincy McKnight added 12 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists. Sacred Heart outrebounded Bryant 53-33 and scored 54 points in the paing.
Pioneers' Offense Comes Alive... Sacred Heart ended a stretch of five straight games under 70 points Thursday night, scoring 87 in a 12-point win at St. Francis Brooklyn. SHU had 16 assists on 32 made baskets and scored 52 points in the paint. The Pioneers shot 49.2% from the field for the game and 51.5% in the second half.
McKnight Fills It Up... Sophomore guard Quincy McKnight had his seventh 20-point effort of the season Thursday night, scoring a game-high 26 points in the Pioneers' win at St. Francis Brooklyn. Over the last seven games, McKnight has averaged 18.7 points per game and has shot 88% at the free throw line. He is third in the NEC in scoring at 18.6 points per game and sixth in free throw percentage at 80.3%.
Lopez In The Low Post... Joseph Lopez had his sixth double-double of the season Thursday night with 21 points and tied a season-high of 16 rebounds. It was his fifth double-double in the last eight games. Since the start of conference play, Lopez is averaging 14 points and 10 rebounds per game while shooting 56.4% from the field. He is tied for third in the conference in rebounding (8.8/game) and sixth in field goal percentage (.577).
That Extra Pass... Sacred Heart leads the NEC in assists, averaging 14.83 per game. SHU had a positive assist-to-turnover ratio for the fourth consecutive game Thursday night with 16 assists to 10 turnovers. The 10 turnovers were SHU's lowest total in a game since having 11 at Lafayette on Dec. 11. The Pioneers have had at least 15 assists in each of the last eight games, averaging 16.1 per game during that stretch.
Pulling Down Boards... Sacred Heart has outrebounded its opponent 12 times in 17 games so far this season. The Pioneers have done this in six of the last eight games, including Thursday night's win at St. Francis Brooklyn. SHU has outrebounded its opponent by at least 15 rebounds three times with a season-high +18 rebound margin (32-18) at Fordham on Nov. 30.
Scouting the Bulldogs... Picked to finish third in the NEC Preseason Poll, Bryant moved to 2-3 in the NEC Thursday night after winning 77-66 over Wagner. Nisre Zouzoua led the Bulldogs with 24 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Bosko Kostur added 15 points and eight rebounds. Zouzoua leads the NEC in scoring at 21.2 points per game. Ikenna Ndugba is second in the NEC in assists with 4.59 per game.
