Men’s Basketball Announces Addition of Anosike and Boateng For 2017-18 Season

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Sacred Heart Men's Basketball Head Coach Anthony Latina announced on Wednesday that EJ Anosike and Tony Boateng will join the Pioneers' basketball program in the fall of 2017 after signing their National Letters of Intent.

EJ Anosike – 6-7/220 – Forward – East Orange, N.J./Paramus Catholic (St. Thomas More)

Anosike is currently in his post-graduate year at St. Thomas More in Oakdale, Conn., playing for legendary coach Jere Quinn. This is the fourth consecutive year Sacred Heart has signed a student-athlete from St. Thomas More, one of the top prep programs in the nation.

Prior to St. Thomas More, Anosike was a 1,000-point scorer at Paramus Catholic High School. He averaged 18 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks, three steals, and three assists per game as a senior. Also during his senior year, Anosike was the MVP of three different tournaments. He also earned First Team All-Metro and Second Team All-County honors.

His sister, Nicky Anosike, played collegiately at Tennessee and was a member of the Lady Vols' 2007 and 2008 NCAA Championship teams. She also played five seasons in the WNBA. His brother, OD, played at Siena from 2009-2013 and led the nation in rebounding for the 2011-12 season.

Latina on Anosike: "EJ is a dynamic individual who'll be a tremendous fit academically, athletically, and socially within our university. He's a great student and a high character kid who comes from a great family. On the court, EJ is a tough, physical competitor who'll be able to help us in a variety of ways. He has a knack for rebounding, can score in any number of ways, and can defend multiple positions. We expect him to be able to come in and make an immediate impact."

Tony Boateng – 5-11/160 – Guard – Bronx, N.Y./Commonwealth Academy (Mass.)

Boateng is currently playing his post-graduate year at Commonwealth Academy in Springfield, Mass. from which he also graduated. He has spent the last several years playing for coach Terrence Williams and the Pro Scholar Athletics Cardinals, one of the most prestigious AAU programs in the country and a member of Nike's Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL). This past summer, Boateng and his team made it to the championship game of the Nike Peach Jam, widely considered one of the top AAU events in amateur basketball.

Latina on Boateng: "We're excited to add a player like Tony Boateng. He has a winning pedigree and the ability to affect the game in a multitude of ways."
