Setting the Scene... Sacred Heart looks to rebound from Saturday's overtime loss to Hartford with a game against another America East opponent, UMass Lowell.
Last Time Out... SHU lost a 15-point lead in the second half Saturday against the Hartford Hawks, but was still able to force overtime. Hartford shot 83.3% from the field in the extra period, including a perfect 4-for-4 at the three-point line, to pull away with an 87-79 overtime win. Quincy McKnight led SHU with 20 points, five assists, and four steals. Joseph Lopez scored 18 points, making 8-of-9 shots from the field. De'von Barnett had a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.
All-Time vs. UMass Lowell... The Pioneers lead the series with the River Hawks 23-18. UMass Lowell has won each of the last two meetings by three points each.
Last Meeting... Isaac White's three-point play with five seconds left broke an 84-84 tie and gave UMass Lowell an 87-84 win over SHU at the Tsongas Center on Nov. 18, 2015. Quincy McKnight's last second three missed the mark. Cane Broome led the Pioneers with 20 points and 10 rebounds as Chris Robinson added 16 points and eight rebounds. SHU shot 58.5% from the field but had 25 turnovers.
Lopez Named NEC Player of the Week... Joseph Lopez was named the NEC Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday. It's his first NEC weekly honor. Lopez shot 93.8% from the field last week in games against Fordham and Hartford, making 15 of 16 shots from the floor. He was a perfect 7-for-7 from the field in the win over Fordham, scoring 19 points and adding 10 rebounds for a double-double. Lopez added 18 points and seven rebounds Saturday against Hartford. He's currently fifth in the NEC in both rebounding (7.8 per game) and field goal percentage (.552).
De'von's Double-Double... Forward De'von Barnett had his second career double-double on Saturday against Hartford, scoring 12 points and pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds. It was his second 10-board game in the last three. Last Wednesday, Barnett scored SHU's final seven points in the 71-70 win at Fordham. He finished the game with 11 points and a career-high four assists. Over the last three games, Barnett is averaging 10.3 points and seven rebounds per game while shooting 60% from the field.
Quincy Keeps Scoring... Quincy McKnight scored 20 points for the fifth time this season on Saturday, adding a team-high five assists and four steals. He had 20 points in the previous two games combined. McKnight is third in the NEC in scoring, averaging 18.3 points per game. He has led SHU in scoring in all but one game this season. McKnight was named NEC Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Nov. 21 after averaging 25 points per game in matchups with Hofstra and #9 Arizona. Earlier this season, McKnight became the first Pioneer since Corey Hassan in 2009-10 to score at least 20 points in each of his first four games after scoring 20 at Santa Clara on Nov. 21.
Scouting the River Hawks... Picked fifth in the America East preseason poll, UMass Lowell is 2-7 on the year after a 75-74 loss to NJIT at Tsongas Center Saturday. Jahad Thomas leads the River Hawks with 15.6 points and eight rebounds per game. Matt Harris adds 13 points per game off the bench. UMass Lowell averages 77.3 points per game but allows 83.7 points per game.
