FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Junior forward Joseph Lopez was named the Northeast Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday after averaging 18.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game last week against Fordham and Hartford.
Lopez missed just one shot from the field in two games last week, shooting an incredible 93.8% from the floor. In last Wednesday's win at Fordham, Lopez was a perfect 7-for-7 from the field and 5-of-6 at the free throw line for 19 points. He also added 10 rebounds for his first double-double as a Pioneer. Lopez added 18 points and seven rebounds Saturday against Hartford, going 8-for-9 from the field.
He is the second Pioneer to be named NEC Player of the Week this season. Quincy McKnight earned the honor on Nov. 21 after averaging 25.0 points per game against Hofstra and Arizona.
The Pioneers continue their current homestand tomorrow night at 7 p.m. against UMass Lowell.
