Pioneers Slated to Play in Las Vegas Classic

FAIRFIELD, CT (July 30, 2013) - The 2013 Continental Tires Las Vegas Classic announed their Championship pairings for this year's event that will feature the Sacred Heart Pioneers.  The tournament is set for December 22nd and 23rd at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.

The Pioneers will play at Santa Clara on December 18th and UNLV on December 20th in the first two rounds of the event.  The Championship round will feature SHU taking on Radford at 12:00 noon pacific time on the 22nd and then either the winner/loser of Florida Gulf Coast and Florida A&M on the 23rd.

Always one of the best holiday tournaments in the country, the 2013 Classic is no exception.  The 2013 Field includes UNLV of the Mountain West Conference, Santa Clara of the West Coast Conference, Mississippi State of the Southeastern Conference, South Florida of the American Athletic Conference (formerly the Big East), Florida Gulf Coast University, Florida A&M University, Radford University, and Sacred Heart University.

Past champions of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic include Kansas State (2008), Alabama (2009), New Mexico (2010) and Baylor (2011).  The 2012 tourney was won by Colorado State, who defeated Virginia Tech 88-52 in the championship game.

Each team will play four games in the Classic – the first two at on-campus sites and the final two rounds at the Orleans Arena December 22-23.  Hosting more than 200 events each year, the Orleans Arena is located just west of the Las Vegas strip and was recently named the #1 mid-size arena in the USA by Venues Today magazine.
