FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Sacred Heart University baseball infielder Justin Jordan was named the NEC Co-Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
This is the Pioneers' second weekly award of the season, as Cooper Thompson was named the Pitcher of the Week earlier this season..
Jordan spearheaded Sacred Heart's offensive effort during a 2-2 week. In three starts at the plate, the first-year Pioneer totaled three extra-base hits and three RBI. He went 5-for-12 (.417) with a double, a triple, a home run, three RBI and one run scored. He provided the Pioneers with an important insurance run in their series-opening win over LIU Brooklyn. Jordan sixth-inning triple gave SHU a 6-4 lead in an eventual 6-5 triumph. He came through again in the sixth inning of the series' middle game, breaking a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring single through the left side. Jordan, who did not hit for himself, earned the start on the bump for the series finale against LIU. He limited the Blackbirds to two earned runs over 5.0 innings.
The Pioneers will be back in action on Wednesday, Mar. 20, when the Pioneers travel to take on Rhode Island at 3 p.m.
