SHU Baseball Upends Alumni in Annual Alumni Game

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Sacred Heart University baseball team held its annual Alumni and Family Day this past weekend at Veterans Park, where the Pioneers had over 20 alumni return for a game against the young Pioneers.

"It was an awesome day for the program, as it was great to see some familiar faces and new ones from years past," SHU head coach Nick Restaino said. "This game is for the players, past and present to celebrate their careers, friendships and love for SHU. I encourage all baseball alum to take part in this event."

In the game, the current Pioneers hopped out to an early 3-0 lead and never looked back. Numerous Pios registered multi-hit performances, including sophomore Isaiah Daubon leading the pack collecting four hits. Elijiah Brown, Noah Centeno, and Danny Glendon all added two hits apiece.

"This was a great opportunity for our freshmen pitchers to perform under some pressure," SHU pitching coach Wayne Mazzoni said. "Pitching against the alumni with a crowd of friends and family is a good test for these young players. I thought they rose to the occasion and performed well."

SHU baseball looks to take this momentum with them to Fairfield, Sunday, Oct. 14, when the Pioneers take on the cross-town rival in a scrimmage beginning at noon.
