Fairfield, Conn – Senior right-hander Kody Kerski (Waterbury, CT) and freshman Keith Klebart (Orange, CT) each collected Northeast Conference honors this week. Kerski, the ace of the Pioneers staff, earned his second Pitcher of the Week award in four weeks, while Klebart was named Rookie of the Week.
Kerski kicked off the Pioneers' four-game weekend sweep of the Cornell Big Red with a masterful complete game shutout Saturday afternoon. The hard-throwing righty scattered just four hits, all singles, and struck out nine against a Cornell lineup that scored 47 runs in its previous three-game series. The senior has now yielded just one earned run in 27.1 innings this season which amounts to a miniscule 0.33 ERA.
Klebart, who was in the midst of a 1-for 11 slump at the dish, broke out in five games last week, going 7-for-18 at the plate. To begin the week, the Connecticut-native smacked a bases loaded triple as part of an eight run fifth inning against URI on Tuesday. He then started off the Pioneers scoring in both game one and game two of the Cornell series. He first drilled a double down the line to score Conor McEvoy (Watertown, CT) in the fourth inning of game one and then in game two knocked a RBI single in the bottom of the first to score Kenny Byram (Ponte Vedra FL) and fellow freshman Zack Short (Hurley, NY).
Klebart, Kerski and the rest of the Pioneers will play host to the Stony Brook Seawolves on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 pm.
