SHU Baseball Heads to Mount St. Mary's for Final NEC Series

FAIRFIELD, CT – With the Northeast Conference Tournament just two weeks away, the Sacred Heart Pioneers head to Mount St. Mary's for their final NEC series of the season. SHU is currently 19-9 in the NEC, sitting behind Bryant and Monmouth in third place. Mount St. Mary's presently sits in last place in the NEC with a conference record of 5-19.

The Pioneers are coming into this weekend after sweeping a four game set against Fairleigh Dickinson at the Ballpark at Harbor Hard. All four Sacred Heart starting pitchers notched wins in the series. Sophomore Keaton Flint (Charlton, NY) had a terrific series against the Knights, going 6-11 at the dish with 6 RBI and 6 runs scored and a couple of walks. Freshman Brian Lamboy (Manalapan, NJ) also had an impressive four game stretch, going 7-16 with two doubles and a triple, 4 runs scored and 7 RBI in the four game sweep of FDU.

The senior captain leads the Pioneers in hitting (.357), RBI (38), slugging (.591), triples (7), homeruns (4), walks (21), and stolen bases (20). Murphy currently ranks first all-time in SHU history with 161 career RBI and second all-time with 243 career hits (24 shy of all-time leader).

The Mount comes into this weekend after losing three of four at Wagner last weekend. MSM has struggled of late, going 4-15 in their last 19 games. The Mountaineers are led by the powerful senior duo of Tom Healy and Sam Nott. Healy currently ranks second in the Northeast Conference with a .402 batting average and 6 homeruns, while Nott leads the league with 9 long balls of his own. Healy has been hitting .613 (19 for 31) over his last eight games with 8 RBI and 8 runs scored.

Last season, the Pioneers swept the Mount, winning a pair of doubleheaders at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Murphy led the way for Sacred Heart in the four game sweep, going 5 for 11 in the four games with 5 RBI, 4 runs scored and 3 walks. Sophomore Matt Chamello (Rossmoor, CT) smacked a walk-off grand slam in the 11th inning of game three and junior Kody Kerski (Waterbury, CT) tossed a five-hit complete-game shutout in the final game of the series.
