Sacred Heart Baseball Releases 2013 Schedule

(Fairfield, CT) – The Sacred Heart Baseball team has announced its 2013 season schedule.

The two-time defending Northeast Conference champions begin their quest for a third straight down in the bayous of Louisiana.  The Pioneers open at Louisiana-Lafayette  for a three-game series March 1-3, move on to Baton Rouge for a doubleheader with Stephan F. Austin and perennial powerhouse Louisiana State University on March 6, then close the trip out with three at Nicholls State March 8-10.

Sacred Heart returns north for the home opener at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard when they host an in-state battle against the UConn Huskies on March 13 – the first game between SHU and UConn since they faced each other in the Clemson Regional of the 2011 NCAA Tournament.  The Pioneers stay in the tri-state area for a non-conference round robin tournament at Fordham March 15-17 against  St. Peter's, Fordham, and NJIT, as well as a game at Rhode Island on March 20.

Sacred Heart begins Northeast Conference play March 22-24 by hosting a four game series against Wagner, followed by a four-game series against LIU Brooklyn at home the next weekend.  The Pioneers stay in Connecticut to begin April with consecutive four-game series at Quinnipiac April 5-7 and at Central Connecticut April 12-14.

SHU hits the road for four at Monmouth April 26-28 in rematch of last year's NEC Championship, then returns home for four May 3-5 against Fairleigh Dickenson.  The Pioneers end conference play with a four-game series at Mount St. Mary's.

Sacred Heart's non-conference slate includes in-state matchups at Yale on April 2 and across town at Fairfield on April 23, as well as home games against Hartford April 9 and Yale April 17.  The Pioneers also play at Iona March 26 and take on Stony Brook on the road against an America East team that surprised the NCAA Baseball world by advancing to the College World Series last year.  The Pioneers close the regular season with a four-game series at home against Niagara May 16-17.
