Pioneers Lose 5-0 to Mississippi State

(Starkville, MS) – The Sacred Heart Pioneer Baseball team was shutout by Mississippi State 5-0 in the first of their three game series Friday night at Dudy Noble Field.

Devin Jones shutdown the Pioneers on nine hits through seven innings, striking out seven and allowing one walk.   Caleb Reed closed out the game for the Bulldogs with two perfect innings out of the bullpen.

 Steve Tedesco went 2-4 for Sacred Heart.  Chris Dionisio and Nick Vig combined to pitch three shutout innings of relief for the Pioneers.

The Bulldogs went ahead with two runs in the first on an RBI triple by Jarrod Parks and an RBI single by Ryan Collins.  They added two more in the fifth on a wild pitch and an RBI single by Wes Thigpen, then tacked on one more on Shepherd's RBI single in the seventh.

The Pioneers look to even the series Saturday at 7:00 p.m. EST.
