Western Named Reserve High Point Team At UCONN

STORRS, Conn.- The Sacred Heart University Equestrian Western Squad was named the reserve high point team as the team wrapped up its shows at UCONN this morning. The Western squad will return to action on Sunday, Feb. 9 when the team competes in a double-header at Mount Holyoke College. Show time is set for 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

The Pioneers dominated the Intermediate Horsemanship shows as three members of the squad placed first in each of their respective sections. Sophomore Carly Julius placed first in Section A while junior Valerie Stein placed first in Section B. Freshman Danielle DeRisio also placed first in Intermediate Horsemanship Section B. In the Open Horsemanship, senior Megan Griffin had the best performance for SHU as she placed first in Section B. Griffin was also named the High Point Rider of the day while Carly Julius was named the team MVP.

 

Open Reining: Victoria Caputo placed 2nd, Megan Griffin placed 3rd and Michelle Johnson placed 4th

 

Open Horsemanship Section A: Victoria Caputo placed 3rd, Michelle Johnson placed 5th

Open Horsemanship Section B: Megan Griffin placed 1st , Cariann Johnson placed 3rd

 

Advanced Horsemanship: Olivia Zwernemann placed 2nd and Emily Spellman placed 3rd

Novice Horsemanship: Logan Morris placed 3rd and Gina Gramarossa placed 4th

 

Intermediate II Horsemanship Section A: Carly Julius placed 1st

Intermediate II Horsemanship Section B: Valerie Stein placed 1st

Intermediate II Horsemanship Section C: Danielle DeRisio placed 1st and Emery Smith placed 2nd

 

Beginner Horsemanship Section B: Krista Hiatrides placed 3rd
