Student-Athletes Post 3.34 GPA In Fall 2017

The Sacred Heart University Department of Athletics will celebrate its academic success at the women's basketball game on Monday, February 12, 2018. The Pioneers host Wagner at 6 p.m. in a game that will air on ESPN3 as part of the Northeast Conference television package.

Pioneer student-athletes had another impressive performance during the Fall 2017 semester. The 855 student-athletes combined for a 3.34 GPA during the semester, with 75 percent of them surpassing a 3.0 GPA. Included in that number is 47 undergraduate student-athletes posting a 4.0 GPA. SHU had 261 student-athletes, 30.5 percent, named to the University Dean's List in the fall.

The bowling team, currently ranked 12th in the nation, posted the top GPA amongst teams, with a 3.62 GPA with its 15 student-athletes. All told, 31 of the teams posted 3.0 or better GPA's during the fall semester, with 11 surpassing the 3.4 mark. The men's tennis team posted the top GPA on the men's side, with a 3.46. The bowling team and men's tennis team will both be honored at halftime, on the court, while the other programs will be recognized throughout the contest.

Monday's game is the annual Pack the Pitt White game, with fans wearing white SHU gear to the game. SHU students can win a pair of Delta tickets, anywhere in the continental United States, simply by attending the game. Those that arrive before tip are entered to win an Ipad and SHU students taking part in the Monday Mayhem Mardi Gras Theme contest are eligible to win Beats Headphones.

The Department of Athletics will also honor the faculty and staff of the University at the game.
