Fairfield, CT-For the first time in Sacred Heart history the women’s cross country team was ranked in the weekly USTFCCCA poll. Sacred Heart was ranked 15th in the northeast region, just behind nutmeg state rival Yale. The Pioneers are coming off an impressive performance at the Northeast Conference championship race last weekend. Four SHU harriers, all underclassmen, garnered all-conference honors.
The Pioneers are ranked 15th in the northeast region that includes strong competition such as Boston College, Providence, Harvard, and Syracuse. The USTFCCCA (United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) releases a weekly poll that divides all collegiate teams into nine divisions based on geography. A national poll is also released to rank the top 15 teams in the country. This is the first time that any Sacred Heart team has been selected in the poll.
The Pioneers will look to improve their ranking as they return to action November 22nd at the ECAC/IC4A Championship at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, NY.
