Fairfield, CT - Two SHU cross country runners, John Kenworthy (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville) and Mekenzie Krause (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union), have earned NEC weekly awards. Kenworthy was named NEC men's athlete of the week after his victory at the Fairfield Invitational. Krause finished fifth in the women's race and claimed her first NEC rookie of the week award.

Kenworthy is now a two-time NEC Athlete of the Week after claiming his first collegiate victory. He crossed the tape in 25:19, winning by one second and setting a Sacred Heart record. Kenworthy's performance propelled the men's team to a third place finish. The men are building confidence, putting up faster times each week despite course conditions.

Krause has become the number two runner for the Pioneers. In route to her fifth place finish Krause crossed the line at the Fairfield Invitational in 19:28. Her consistent fast times have been a welcome addition to a consistently strong women's program. The Pioneer women earned a victory at the Fairfield Invitational for the fifth consecutive year and have won the event 10 of the past 12 seasons.
