Fairfield, CT-Four Underclassmen were named to the NEC All-Conference Team as SHU took second place in the conference championship race this weekend.  The Pioneers have been a balanced and very deep team all season long.  Mekenzie Krause (Bennington, VT), Brittany Llobell (West Sayville, NY), Dana Troy (Lebanon, CT), and Samantha Troy (Lebanon, CT) all finished in the top 12 to take home All-NEC honors.

The top two finishers for the Pioneers were the team’s strong freshmen, Krause and Llobell.  Krause finished in sixth place overall with a time of 19:12.  Llobell placed ninth edging out a Monmouth runner by one second with a time of 19:21.  The sophomore Troy sisters ran together and took 11th and 12th place as Dana Troy posted a time 19:22 and Samantha Troy crossed the tape in 19:23.

Senior Kathleen Henry (Basking Ridge, NJ) notched a top 25 performance with a time of 20:19.  Johanna Acosta (Hartford, CT) and Sarah Tencza (Succasunna, NJ) rounded out the Pioneers top 7 with respective times of 20:20 and 20:22.


 

 

Quinnipiac won its fourth straight NEC crown since 2005 when they split the title with the Pioneers.  Head Coach Christian Morrison will be very pleased with the performance of his young runners.  The Pioneers proved this weekend that they will be a forced to be reckoned with in the immediate future.
