2007 CTC Championship Women's Results

STOCKTON, N.J. (October 21, 2007) - The Sacred Heart women's cross country team took home the team title at the 2007 Collegiate Track Conference Championship Saturday afternoon with the men coming in third at the event. The Pioneers used the CTC race as their final tune-up for next weekend's Northeast Conference Championship in New Britain, CT.

The Pioneer women had all seven of their runners in the top-30 with their first five coming in the top-16. SHU finished the race with 46 team points to beat out Rowan in second (53). The race was held at Richard Stockton College of New Jersey.

Leading the way was freshman Dana Troy (Lebanon, CT) who finished fifth in the race, crossing the finish line in 30:29.97 on the 5K course. Fellow freshman Kimberly DeLoreto (Hillsdale, NJ) and sophomore Sarah Tencza (Succasunna, NJ) were right behind Troy in seventh and eight place, each running in their home state of New Jersey. DeLoreto finished in 20:40.42 while Tencza was clocked at 20:42.84.

Freshman Samantha Troy (Lebanon, CT) picked up a 10th place finish with a time of 20:50.87 while junior Mary Coakley (Plattsburgh, NY) rounded out the SHU top-five in 16th place at 21:19.23. Closing out Sacred Heart's top-seven runners was freshman Erin McPherson (Marlborough, MA) in 23rd (21:42.99) and sophomore Theresa Campbell (Colonia, NJ) in 27th place (21:51.83).
 

 

The SHU men finished with 79 total points, just behind the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in second with 72. Rowan won the event with 26 points. The Pioneers had six runners finish in the top-20 at the event.

Junior John Kenworthy (Gloversville, NY) was the Pioneer's top-runner with a 13th place finish. Kenworthy ran the 6K course in 21:10.81. SHU claimed the 15th through 19th spots starting with fresman Alessio Asaro (Forest Hills, NY) in 15th with a time of 21:20.42.

Junior David Jones (Ballston Lake, NY) ran in 16th in 21:23.31 followed by sophomore Brendan Rickert (Danbury, CT) in 17th in 21:27.74, freshman Steven Pawlowski (Middleton, MA) in 18th in 21:30.06 and junior Joseph Palma (Gladstone, NJ) in 19th in 21:34.22. Freshman Daniel Koehler rounded out the SHU top-seven in 21st place with a time of 21:38.98.

Both Pioneer teams will be heading to Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain next Saturday for the conference championship race. SHU ran the course earlier this season at the Central Connecticut Invitational.
