FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Sacred Heart's Gaelyn Kattman has been named the Northeast Conference's female Rookie of the Week for cross country for the third consecutive week of competition.
Kattman was the first NEC rookie to cross the finish line at Saturday's New England Cross Country Championships at Boston's Franklin Park, finishing the 5K race in 19:46.4. Overall, she placed 88th out of 168 runners in a highly competitive field that featured several of the top programs from around New England.
Kattman previously won the award on Sept. 26 after finishing 10th overall out of a total of 82 runners in personal-record time of 19:08.1 at the 5K Ted Owen Invitational. She was one of four SHU runners to finish in the top 10 overall.
Kattman also took home the same honor on Sept. 12, following the Nassaney Invitational.
The Pioneers will compete this Saturday at the Vermont Fall Foliage Invitational and on Friday the 19th at the CCSU Mini Meet before they will attempt to defend their NEC title at the conference championship meet on Oct. 27.
