BOSTON – The Northeast Conference Champion Sacred Heart women's cross country team placed 24th out of 37 teams at the NCAA Northeast Regional on Friday at Franklin Park.
For the second consecutive race, it was Jennifer Hahne leading the Pioneers. A year after completing the event in 123rd place, Hahne placed 84th in the field of 256, finishing the 6k course in 22:25.3. That time was less than two seconds shy of a personal best, which she set last year at the Regionals, and is good for eighth on SHU's all-time 6k list.
Seniors Shannon Hickey and Alexandra Kaeslin were the next Sacred Heart finishers, crossing back-to-back in 128th and 129th place. Both improved on their 2014 finishes, as Hickey was 135th and Kaeslin was 171st. Hickey ran the event in 22:59.5, while Kaeslin's time of 23:00.3 was a new personal best.
SHU's next three runners did not run at the Regional last year. Molly Barker, Kate Svensen, and Meghan Hutch all set personal bests en route to placing 148th, 158th, and 175th, respectively. Barker's time of 23:17.7 beat her previous best by 27 seconds, as she improved on her 2013 finish in the event by 53 places. Svensen and Hutch both moved into the top 30 on Sacred Heart's all-time 6k list with times of 23:25.7 and 23:41.2.
SHU finishes its season next Saturday at the ECAC/IC41 Cross Country Championships, hosted at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y. at 9:30 am.
