FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Senior women's cross country runner Brianna Castrogivanni (Commack, N.Y.) was named the Northeast Conference Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week on Tuesday for her performance at the Princeton University Invitational on Saturday.
Castrogivanni won her third race of the 2013 season on Saturday, beating out 205 other runners to cross the finish line first Saturday at the Princeton Invitational. The senior ran the second-fastest 6000 meter race in Pioneer program history, missing the record by just three seconds. With her time of 21:25, Castrogivanni holds the fastest 6000 meter time of an NEC athlete this season by 24 seconds. This marks the third time this season she has been honored as NEC Athlete of the Week.
The Pionners will next compete at the Northeast Conference Championship on Nov. 2 at Immergrun Golf Course in Loretto, Pa.
