Pioneers Win Saint Francis U Invitational
LORETTO, PA (September 28, 2013) - The Sacred Heart Pioneers took home the team title at the Saint Francis U Father Bede Invitational Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers placed their top-five runners among the top 20 finishers en route to the team title in a preview race of the Northeast Conference Championship in November.
Senior Brianna Castrogivanni (Commack, NY) led the charge with a second place finish, leading four SHU runners in the top-10. Castrogivanni turned in a time of 18:54 on the 5k course, and has now finished in the top-five in every race this season.
Sophomore Shannon Hickey (South Easton, MA) grabbed her first top-five finish by taking fifth place overall with a time of 19:44. Junior Elizabeth Hutchins (Pawcatuck, CT) ran in eighth place, finishing with a time of 20:02. Classmate Emma Bolduc (Peterborough, NH) took home 10th place with a clocking of 20:09.
Freshman Megan Hutch (East Tauton, MA) rounded out the Pioneer top-five finishers with a 20th place finish on Saturday, clocking in at 20:58. Freshman Molly Barker (Weymouth, MA) finished in 23rd place (21:05) and sophomore Cynthia Gray (Pine Bush, NY) was 30th (21:18).
The Pioneers finished with a team total of 45 points to top Bryant in second place with 54. The race featured 10 teams, nine of which compete in the NEC. The Red Flash will host the NEC Championship on the same course on November 2nd.
Sacred Heart is back in action on October 12th when they run in the 101st New England Championship in Boston at Franklin Park.
