FAIRFIELD, CT (September 21, 2013) - Sacred Heart senior Brianna Castrogivanni (Commack, NY) notched her second win of the 2013 season on Saturday afternoon, taking home the individual title at the 37th Annual Father Leeber S.J. Invitational held at Fairfield University. The Pioneers had the top-two finishers in the race and had four runners finish in the top-10 Saturday.
Castrogivanni made it two-straight wins on the season, breaking the tape with a time of 18:43.70 on the 5k course. She entered Saturday's race off a win at the Bryant Invitational two weeks ago. Castrogivanni took second place at last year's race with a time of 18:48. She is off to a blazing start to her season with two wins and top-five finishes in all three races.
Sophomore Shannon Hickey (South Easton, MA) turned in the top finish of her young career, coming home in second place with a time of 19:10.20 Junior Emma Bolduc (Peterborough, NH) finished fifth overall, clocking in at 19:28.40. Bolduc finished fifth in last season's Fairfield race as well.
Freshman Molly Barker (Weymouth, MA) picked-up a 10th place finish wiht a time of 20:02.30. The Pioneers top-seven was rounded out at spots 18 through 20. Freshman Mia Imbesi (Syosset, NY) led that pack witha time of 20:17.80, followed by senior Teresa Gagliostro (Township of Washington, NJ) at 20:23.00 and freshman Meghan Hutch (East Taunton, MA) at 20:23.20.
The Pioneers as a team finished in second place with 36 points. SHU saw a streak of nine-straight wins at the Fairfield Invitational come to an end on Saturday as the host Stags took home the team title with 28 points.
Sacred Heart is back in action next Saturday at the Saint Francis U Father Bede Invitationl. The Red Flash will also host the Northeast Conference Championship on November 2nd.
