SMITHFIELD, RI (October 27, 2012) - The Sacred Heart women's cross country team finished in second place at the 2012 Northeast Conference Championship held Saturday afternoon at Bryant University in Smithfield, RI. The Pioneers had three runners finish in the top-10 and earn All-Northeast Confernce honors.
The Quinnipiac Bobcats won their eighth-straight NEC Championship on Saturday, finishing with 46 total points. The Pioneers came in second, posting 54 points.
Senior Alyssa Selmquist (Northford, CT), junior Brianna Castrogivanni (Commack, NY) and senior Michelle Navarro (Piscataway, NJ) all finished in the top-six runners to garner all-conference accolades.
Selmquist finished in second place, clocking in on the 5K course with a time of 17:47.32. Castrogivanni was fourth overall with a time of 17:56.99 and Navarro took home sixth overall crossing the tape in 18:15.35.
Sophomore Emily Bolduc (Peterborough, NH) just missed out on an All-NEC finish, coming in 17th with a time of 18:48.18.
Rounding out the Pioners top-seven was sophomore Elizabeth Hutchins (Pawcatuck, CT) in 25th (18:56.75), senior Megan Papp (Niantic, CT) in 33rd (19:12.90) and senior Brittany Llobell (West Sayville, NY) in 39th (19:29.28).
The Pioneers will run again on November 9th at the NCAA Regional Championship at Hammonasset State Park in Madison, CT.
