FAIRFIELD, CT - Freshman Brittany Best (Norco, CA) was named the Northeast Conference Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week today, after helping the Pioneers to a 1-1 record last week that helped the Pioneers improve to 15-8 overall and 2-1 in the NEC. It is the fifth time a Pioneer has won the award this year. Fellow rookies Ashlyn Trimble and Maile Hetherington have each won it twice.

Best garners her first Rookie of the Week award after averaging 4.1 kills per game and 2.75 digs per game as the Pioneers went 1-1 last week. The outside hitter tallied a double-double (12 kills, 11 digs) in a sweep of Quinnipiac on Oct. 25, hitting .350 in the match. Best proceeded to hammer a career-best 21 kills against Fairleigh Dickinson, adding another 11 digs for her second consecutive double-double. The California native also totaled three blocks and seven aces for the Pioneers, who stand at 15-8 overall and 2-1 in the Conference, good for a tie for third place in the league standings.

The Pioneers will be in action again on Wednesday at Army and then at Central Connecticut on Thursday.
