HAMDEN, Conn. (November 11, 2006) - Junior Tiffany Phoenix (Cresskill, NJ) turned in a double double with 13 kills and 17 digs to lead the Sacred Heart volleyball team to a 3-2 win over Quinnipiac in the Northeast Conference finale Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers sprinted out to wins in games one and two, 30-27 and 30-22, but needed the full five games to seal the win after a Bobcat comeback. Quinnipiac clawed its way back into the match, winning the third and fourth games, 30-21 and 30-26, to force a fifth game. Sacred Heart jump out to a 5-1 lead in the fifth game, before Quinnipiac scored back-to-back points to cut the lead to 5-3. The Pioneers would then close out the match with a 10-5 run.
Phoenix finished with 13 kills in 34 attempts against just four errors. She added a service ace to her stat line totals. Joining Phoenix in double digit kills was freshman Alex Bavasi (Flagstaff, AZ) who led the Pioneers with 14 kills. She finished with a .500 hitting percentage (14-1-26).
Fellow freshman Annie Archer (Littleton, CO) posted 12 kills and hit .333 in the match (12-4-24). Junior Christine Duffy (Massapequa, NY) finished with 12 kills while hitting .375 (12-3-24) and eight digs.
Sophomore Katie Thomas (Wappingers Falls, NY), the NEC leader in digs, posted 17 in the win. Fellow sophomore Lynne Principio (Ardsley, NY) finished with 10 digs. Freshman Aurora Appel (Mendham, NJ) passed out a season-high 54 assists and missed a double double with nine digs. She added four kills in six attempts to her totals.
Stephanie Conde had a career game for Quinnipiac with career-highs in kills (13) and digs (11). Crista Valentino had a career-best 17 kills while also totaling 11 digs.

The Pioneers close out the season tomorrow afternoon hosting New Jersey Tech in the William H. Pitt Center at 2:00 pm.
