FAIRFIELD, CT - Freshman Johanna Ovsenek (London, Ontario) had a career-high 13 kills, while sophomore Brittany Best (Norco, CA) had ten kills and nine digs to lead the Sacred Heart women's volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-18) Northeast Conference win over visiting Fairleigh Dickinson on Wednesday night.
The win was the fourth straight for the Pioneers and ninth in the last ten matches. They improve to 15-7 overall and 5-1 in the NEC. FDU drops to 3-19 overall and 0-6 in conference play.
The first set was the only tester for the Pioneers. FDU led the game 20-19 after a Sarah Berkland kill. Sacred Heart ripped off the next five points to take a 24-20 lead and put the set away. SHU used kills from Ovsenek, Jessica Colberg (Long Beach, CA) and Courtney Kidd-Kadlubek (Santa Barbara, CA), as well as an Ovsenek block, to pull off the run.
The Pioneers will resume play on Saturday at home at 4:30 pm against Central Connecticut State.
