STORRS, CT - The UConn Huskies played a nearly flawless match Wednesday night in its first-ever meeting against the Sacred Heart University women's volleyball team. The Pioneers played well in stretches but UConn made just six errors on attack all evening to win the match 3-0 (25-19, 25-12, 25-12).
The Pioneers won the first two points of the match off the serve of Brittany Best, before UConn for untracked and built a 13-9 lead. The Huskies extended that to 20-15, forcing head coach Rob Machan to burn his second timeout of the set. The break didn't stop the UConn momentum and the Huskies too the set 25-19.
The Pioneers got an early 3-2 lead in the second set but some strong hitting helped the Huskies take a 10-7 lead and force another Pioneer timeout. The Huskies took that lead and ran with, extending the lead to 14-7 and causing another SHU timeout. Neither interruption slowed UConn down and it won the set easily, 25-12.
The Huskies, 14-6, made just three attack errors during the first two sets and continued the trend in the third set in building a quick 6-3 lead. Midway through the set the Huskies had built the lead to 15-10 before coach Machan used his final timeout.
