PRINCESS ANNE, MD - Sophomore Maile Hetherington (Thousand Oaks, CA) finished with a match-high ten kills, while fellow sophomore Jessica Colberg (Long Beach, CA) had 12 digs to help the Sacred Heart women's volleyball team sweep Maryland-Eastern Shore 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-21) Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers have now won three straight, and four of the last five, to run their record to 9-6. UMES saw its record fall to 9-6.
Colberg's serve proved to be the catalyst for the Pioneers in a tight 25-23 opening-set win. The Pioneers picked up eight points off her serve, including an ace. She is second on the team this season with 22 service aces.
Sophomore Ashlyn Trimble (Temecula, CA) also had a solid match for the Pioneers with five kills, 11 digs, a service ace, and a pair of block assists.
The Pioneers continue their 12-game road swing on Friday in their Northeast Conference opener at Fairleigh Dickinson.
